A KOMBI CALLED DAISY
In 2020 our dear friend and wild cat Asta Grace purchased a 1975 Kombi van; we first go the call from Asta one sunny afternoon in march to excitedly say she’d found an ‘old kombi that looked better in real life than it did online.’
WHAT IS THE YEAR NAME AND MAKE OF YOUR ADVENTURE VEHICLE? Give us the story, the vision and tell us how this adventure came to begin.
I found daisy covered in grey house paint primer with a lawn mower for an engine and cut out hole in her side that acted as a ‘radiator’. I knew she had a lot of work to be done but her panels were straight and I had the best team of advisories and help to get her back up to scratch possible.
WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE YOU’VE TAKEN YOUR VEHICLE?
One of my most memorable trips was taking Daisy to the Eyre Peninsula for new years!
Another memorable moment was a camping trip to the Flinders Ranges
WHAT MAKES YOUR CAR SPECIAL OR UNIQUE? What modifications have you made? What are the specs?
Daisy may look like a Kombi, opting for a classic look to her interior and paint but she’s actually got a custom gear box and Subaru engine installed. twin exhausts….
WHAT CHALLENGES HAVE YOU OVERCOME? Or stories can share that highlight the reality of owning an adventure vehicle/ living an alternative lifestyle?
The pop top roof came off on the highway.
WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE TRAVEL PLANS? Tell us about the next adeventure. The vision.
I would love to take Daisy on a lap of Aus! I can’t decide if i’m more excited to travel up the east coast through the beautiful little towns of the central coast NSW, up north towards the Daintree rainforest, down south through Victoria and Tassie or across to Western Australia! I want to see it all… and one day we will!
